Lasek Eye Surgery
Having recently undergone Lasek surgery for vision correction, I personally found it to be a life changing, yet exciting experience having worn glasses for over half of my life. I had debated for a couple of years as whether or not to have this Lasek surgery as it could potentially be dangerous and damage my eyes if the surgeon is not careful.
I carefully researched Lasek surgeons in my area for quite some time and found one to fit my wants and needs along with the safety of my eyes. Like most eye surgeons, mine offered a complimentary consultation which I highly recommend if you are thinking of having this procedure. After my free very thorough consultation which lasts approximately one and a half hours to make sure I was an acceptable Lasek candidate, as not every person is, I scheduled a date and time.
Prior to having surgery, I was instructed to put a couple of different drops in my eyes a few times a day in order to “prep” my eyes for what I about to have done. The day of my Lasek surgery was an exciting time for me and I was a bit nervous upon my arrival late in the afternoon, however I was given an option to whether I would like a mild sedative to which I agreed.
As I entered the surgery suite, my Lasek doctor explained to me just as he had previously during my consultation as to when he would start, what I was going to feel as the laser approached one eye and then the next, and when it would be complete and assured me I was in good hands and even offered a nurse to hand hold throughout the procedure if I would feel more comfortable.
The actual lasik laser procedure occurred in just under about twenty seconds with no pain involved and as i sat up, my vision was a clear twenty-twenty. Following Lasek surgery since the eyes were prone to infection, my eyes were covered with special plastic glasses to protect them from harm for about twenty four hours. I then returned the following day to have the glasses removed and for the first time in my life that I can remember, I could see a brighter, crisper, clearer future. No more having to purchase contacts, glasses, or prescription sun glasses for that matter. Lasek is a remarkable experience I highly recommend.
